“A Day of Celebration, Conversation and Commitment”
|
|
|
ARISE Detroit!, a community wide call-to-action and volunteer initiative, invites
you to to register your organization the 3rd Annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods
Day on Aug. 1, 2009, – a day focused on reconnecting families, people and neighborhoods.
ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day is a combination citywide block party, family reunion
and networking affair. It showcases the best of the spirit of Detroiters.
Participating neighborhood organizations, block clubs and churches will hold games
for children, neighborhood parades, health screenings, vendor fairs, and offer vendor
booths so people can sign up as volunteers or learn about the many organizations
working to help children and families and neighborhoods.
The purpose is to stimulate pride, connect people together by harkening back to
the days when everyone on the block looked out for each other and their children.
Last year, during the second observance of Neighborhoods Day, 110 events were held
from the Riverfront to Eight Mile, from Midtown to downtown.
Since launching in June of 2006, ARISE Detroit has grown from 22 founding partners
to more than 400 non-profits, churches, business and media outlets collaborating
to improve the quality of life in Detroit through volunteerism and community activism.
The organization recruits volunteers and markets events and organizations that work
to improve the quality of life for children and families.
