Earley, Jr., DTE Energy chairman and CEO.

Earley was joined at a news conference last month by Edward Montgomery, executive director, White House Council on Auto Communities and Workers, who touted the latest round of grants under the federal economic stimulus program.

Puppet Scrooge at Matrix Theatre Company, December 4-20

A Christmas Carol' gets local with puppets Matrix Theatre Company presents 'Puppet Scrooge' Dec. 4-20, 2009

Charles Dickens' holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," the Victorian tale of Christmas past, present and future is coming to present-day Detroit. Matrix Theatre Company's modernized original adaptation, "Puppet Scrooge," opens at Matrix Theatre on Dec. 4, 2009. A lot has changed since the story was published in 1843.

Designed for all ages, in Matrix's version Ebenezer becomes Pecunia Scrooge, a flinty auntie with a shop on Michigan Avenue. She is visited by the ghosts of Christmas and sees her past, present and future in Detroit. Auntie Scrooge finds joy and comes to understand the season despite all of the struggles and hardships that hit her hometown.
"It is a story that is so timeless and relevant for people who live in Southwest Detroit. It is reminiscent of all the struggles of the local people and how we can all bring holiday cheer through it all," said Director Jaclyn Strez.
The newly configured theatre is an intimate space that ensures that all the action can be seen from every seat. Matrix's Inclusive Theatre Initiative also insures that "Puppet Scrooge" is available to all, with parking, seating, and restroom facilities accessible to everyone. ASL-interpreted performances and audio description will be available at select performances, and assistive listening devices are offered at every show.

Angel Tree Program for Children of Incarcerated Parents
PRISON MINISTRY PROGRAM

Angel Tree.  It starts with a gift. But it's so much more.

Every child has a story. For 1.5 million American children, that story is filled with the abandonment, loneliness, and shame that comes from having a mom or dad in prison. At Angel Tree, we find ways to reach out to these children, by sharing Christ's love with them at Christmas and by developing year-round relationships. In the end, it's so much more than giving Christmas gifts-it's about restoring families. Go directly to the Angel Tree Website.

Michigan State University Extension - 4H Club & Mentoring Program
Gary C. Williams - 600 Temple - Detroit, MI 48201

Clergy and Laity Volunteer/Intern Opportunity.    We the staff and mostly importantly the residents here at Lasher Hills Nursing Home, Southfield, MI, would truly benefit from someone coming in and doing room visits with our bed fast residents and any residents who needed spiritual comfort, providing Church services on the 4th and 5th Sundays, doing Bible Study and Bible Trivia every Monday and Friday from 3- 4pm. Our Chaplin also put together a resident choir. She visited our sick in the hospital, she went to the funerals of our residents who have moved on to a better place. She provide counseling and inspiration to our staff.
Thank you so much for being the blessings that this facility needs. Contact Elanda Clarke, Activities Director.

VIP Mentoring If you, or someone you know, are providing care over a child 7-14 years of age who has a parent that is incarcerated (CHILDREN OF PROMISE), there is a mentoring program standing ready to assist and help!
The VIP Mentoring Program has served caregivers throughout Detroit with mentoring support for their children since 1991. The VIP Program specializes in providing carefully trained, screened and supervised adult mentors to CHILDREN OF PROMISE (Children who have a parent that is incarcerated).  As two of our caregivers have recently stated:
"I cannot imagine what I would do if VIP Mentoring and their mentors were not there for us. We have grown to be a family and family always sticks together. Please don't separate us from our immediate family (VIP Mentoring)"

"The VIP Mentoring Program has provided both of my nieces with wonderful mentors and has changed their lives to such a positive one."

Mark Your Calendar! The Harwood Institute, in Lansing, January 5-8, 2010

The Harwood Public Innovators Lab is a critical investment in your ability to make change in your community. It is a 3 1/2 day immersion in the key Harwood tools, frameworks and ideas where you work directly with Rich Harwood and our team of coaches to learn how you can take action to create a different kind of public life; how you can help to make hope real.

After the tremendous 2009 Detroit Lab we heard from leaders and organizations across Michigan about holding another Lab there so even more people could learn how to create a different kind of public life and make hope real.  So back by popular demand, the next Lab will be in Lansing, Michigan from January 5-8, 2010.
